My overall scene consists of a prison cell area with a ground floor and a 1st floor similar to the image I found that I wanted to base it from.
The image above is the original image that I was basing my scene from for my dissertation. It gives of a clear understanding and a good scale of what it is I plan to build.
This is my final scene as you can see my scene looks very similar to the original image which is what I was aiming for with my final outcome and to make my scene darker so that it fits in with my genre choice, but there is obviously a little bit of difference between the two because it would take up more time to get exactly everything the same. The main thing with this is that you can understand what it is I have built and feel the atmosphere I am going for.
With each end of my scene I wanted to have it cut of so that it makes more sense and makes it look more natural and realistic. I didn't want to make the scene too open and close it in so that I can focus on this small area and make it look good.
Each of my cells consist of the same modular pieces for the doors and inside each cell. I wanted to make it look more natural rather than changing every piece which would take too much time when it isn't really needed in this scene. The way I decided to change it so it didn't look too repetitive, is I changed the doors so that some were open more than others and the stuff inside is all over the place, so some stuff could be tipped over etc. This makes it look more rundown and abandoned which is kind of what it is like in the walking dead TV series so it fits in well with my idea.
Finally I noticed after I finished building my scene that the scene was bit empty and need to be more dirty so it fits with the original image and makes it look more rundown. I worked on a number of decals to put into my scene so I could spread them out all over the floor to give it some dirt and make it look less plain and simple. Although my scene may seem simple I think the decals helps give it that extra realism and help make it fit in with what it is I planned to do. I worked on a number of decals because I didn't want to use the same one over and over again as it would look odd and too repetitive.
This is a cinematic of my overall finished scene. For some reason there are a few seams showing in the video which is quite strange because they don't show in UDK itself.
