Week 7 - Promoting myself

Although I have already spoken about promoting my work during the first blog, I have decided it would a good idea to talk about it through this one as well as it helps me to understand what ways there are in order to me to promote all my work and what choices I have throughout using these sites for setting it up to put work on.

There are many ways to promote myself over the internet mainly using websites on the internet in which I can show of all the work I have produced in order to get noticed by people all over the world and also attract game companies to the work I have produced, this will all depend on how good my work really is because the work I do will only get noticed if it is actually any good.

There are many websites out there that artists can use to demonstrate there work and promote the work they have currently worked on to show the sort of stuff that is produced. Using these website will help the artist get noticed more and give me more ways to make sure that I am seen over the world in order to stand a chance, I must promote myself.

Some website allow you to create your own website within them which you can use to show of all your work you have done. I will look at a few different websites that allow artists to demonstrate the work they have done and explain why it can be a good resource to use for my work.

The first website I found is called webs. It is free to use and all you need is to sign up for it. It allows you to use easy website building tools to build your website the way you want and it gives you a number of professional template styles for your website to choose from. This is good because when showing of your work you want to make sure that the website looks professional to the company or person looking at it in order for them to decided if they want to employ you. It has a feature called site builder where you can just drag and drop stuff into the website making it easy to add items/images or videos to your website. The wide selection of templates you can choose from also lets you fully customize to the way you want it and the style you want so you can work on promoting yourself in a professional way (image above).

Compared to the other website this website offers you to create a free website once you have signed up. It allows you to access loads of features including different tools which you can use to change and make your website different and more professional. It gives you a number of website templates which you can work from and make your website look professional. It gives you the tools to make your work stand out on the website which is useful for artists (image above). The only difference really between this one and the other one is that this one doesn't give you as much customization as the first one.

Then of course you have other sites which may not be related too much to the website creating sites, but they can still be used as a good point to promote any work that I am happy with and I feel that it may get noticed. Facebook, Twitter, MySpace etc. are all the same sort of sites in which they allow you to keep in contact with friends, family and any other resources which will help you to promote what it is you are working on. They may not be as effective as the website creating sites, but they can still give you the chance to promote work over the world and maybe even eventually get you employed. for example MySpace allows you to meet new people which could be just as effective as using the website creating sites since you may find someone who works in the industry or can give you work to someone they know works in that job role etc. I think this is the same thing with Facebook and Twitter. Its a good way to help your chances of getting a job (images below). Its also good for you to put your portfolio or website up so that people can give you feedback on it and tell you what changes could be made for it to look better and therefore will help increase chances of being employed.
