Week 6 - New showreel plan

Professional Portfolio Development 1 is purely to talk about what I plan to do as a rough guide on what may be done as an example for the show reel and looking at other artists show reels to get an idea and understanding on what it is that should be done for the final show reel in order for the work that is put into it to look good or make it look professional for whoever may look at it.

So for this blog I will be nailing down exactly what it is I plan to put into my final show reel since I know exactly what I will be building for both scenes for dissertation work and Advanced 3D work. This means that the show reel should be near enough spot on with what I plan to do.

Dissertation scene

For my dissertation scene  I am going to be building a small environment of an inside area of the prison as it will be the second time I have worked on an inside environment alone. This will give me the chance to improve on my modelling techniques and skills and texture skills. I feel working on an environment based on an inside area will benefit me more and give me the chance to learn some new techniques with lighting and help me to gain more knowledge on working on inside environments in the future to help make the work I produce to professional standards.

As I am not yet finished with modelling my scene for this module I will use images to demonstrate what it is I will be going for with my show reel and how I plan to get it into my scene.

All work produced to put into the show reel for this scene will all be based from this image of the prison area.

Steps for show reel
  • Camera pans through the section of the environment showing all parts of the environment focusing on most important parts like cells etc.
  • Slow zoom and rotations on camera when showing of environment.
 Skills shown
  • Modelling assets
  • Real life texturing used
  • Decals used
  • Different lighting
  • Indoor environment assets
  • Modular pieces built

Advanced 3D work

As I am now currently working on this module I now have a better understanding of what it is I want to do and what will be going in my final show reel compared to my example show reel where I didn't have exactly nailed down the concept I wanted to work on. I decided to work on a larger environment for this module since I am working with another person and I have scaled down my dissertation scene as it seems to make sense for Advanced 3D to have a bigger piece of 3D work and I feel that I will be able to show of more of the assets that I have done for this environment.

All work produced for this module will be based mainly around this concept art but also with using other images to help get an idea of how the pub/bar could be setup within inside the bar.

Steps for show reel

  • Camera pans through the section of environment showing all assets and different textures used
  • Camera zooms in to focus on certain points to show of the details in models and texturing
  • Images that show each part of environment from different angles

Skills shown

  • 3D modelling
  • Texturing
  • Lighting techniques
  • level design
  • Texture maps
